Save the Tiger (1973) is a film that delves into the moral dilemmas of contemporary America, helmed by director John G. Avildsen. Harry Stoner resides in a lavish mansion in Beverly Hills with his Spanish-speaking maid. Despite his success and opulent lifestyle, he is haunted by the traumas of his wartime experiences and weighed down by the demands of both work and personal life. He finds solace in reminiscing about his love for baseball during his youth. However, this nostalgia often leads him to act out intense games in his bedroom, causing concern for his wife Janet. In an attempt to help her husband cope with these issues, she urges him to seek therapy with Dr. Frankfurter. Harry has confided in her that each morning he wakes up costs him $200 due to expenses such as the mortgage, their daughter’s Swiss schooling, and various other luxuries like pool maintenance and tree trimming.

On top of this financial strain, they must also find a way to finance a new line of women’s fashion at work after barely making it through the previous year by ‘dancing with the books’, a move that could potentially trigger an audit. While cruising down Sunset Strip in his new Lincoln Continental, the driver comes across a carefree hitchhiker named Myra – a symbol of the bygone flower-power movement. She offers him a chance to ‘ball’, but he politely declines, citing his urgent need to get to work. The man, who co-owns a struggling apparel company called Capri Casuals in Los Angeles, is facing financial turmoil and is potentially facing an audit due to deceiving accounting practices with his partner, Phil Greene. Today marks the big fashion show for their out-of-town buyers, and tensions run high as Stoner and Greene passionately debate how to fund their latest collection.
