Saw 0.5 (2003)

In Saw 0.5 (2003), a disoriented young hospital worker named David finds himself being interrogated by a nameless, unsympathetic police officer. He appears disheveled, with blood smears on his shirt and face, as he recounts being knocked unconscious after finishing his shift at the hospital. When he came to, he was in a large room with a chair and a rusty metal device attached to his head. A television to his left played a video featuring a terrifying puppet that informed David that the device was a “reverse bear trap” with the only key located in the stomach of his deceased cellmate.

After freeing himself from his bonds, David unknowingly triggers the timer on the trap. He locates his cellmate, whom the puppet had referenced, and realizes he is alive but paralyzed. Frantically, David opens him up and retrieves the key to unlock the device, causing it to snap open just as he throws it down. Overcome with terror, David screams and sobs. Suddenly, the puppet rides in on a tricycle at the room’s entrance and commends David for surviving, stating that he has shown gratitude for being alive.
