Scoop (2006)
Scoop (2006) is a romantic crime comedy film written and directed by Woody Allen. It follows the story of investigative reporter Joe Strombel’s spirit, who finds himself on the barge of death with other individuals, including Jane Cook. Cook claims she was poisoned by her employer, Peter Lyman, an ambitious British aristocrat who she believes may also be the notorious Tarot Card Killer. This killer has been targeting prostitutes and leaves a card on each victim’s body. Sondra Pransky, an American journalism student vacationing in London, attends a performance by magician Sid Waterman, also known as ‘The Great Splendini’. She then agrees to participate in his act onstage.
While using The Dematerializer booth, Pransky encounters Strombel’s ghost who escaped from the Grim Reaper. The ghost shares his suspicions about Lyman with a journalist, hoping they will investigate the story. Sondra decides to look into whether Lyman is truly the Killer and enlists Sid’s help in the process. To catch Lyman’s attention, Sondra pretends to drown at an exclusive club’s swimming pool. When he saves her, she introduces herself as Jade Spence, the daughter of a wealthy family from Palm Beach. Sid poses as her father while ‘Jade’ dates Lyman. Despite Sondra’s conviction that Lyman is the murderer, Sid remains skeptical. However, as Sondra falls in love with Lyman and begins to trust him, Sid starts to doubt him more and more.
