Scream (2022)

Scream (2022) is an American slasher film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. As the fifth installment in the Scream series, it serves as both a reboot and direct sequel to the previous film, Scream 4 (2011). 25 years have passed since Billy Loomis and Stu Macher terrorized Woodsboro, but the town is once again plagued by Ghostface. High school student Tara Carpenter is attacked while home alone and ends up hospitalized. Her older sister Sam is informed about the attack by Wes Hicks and hurries back to Woodsboro with her boyfriend Richie to visit Tara in the hospital. There, Sam reunites with Tara’s friends: Amber Freeman, twins Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin, and Liv McKenzie. The group soon discovers that Liv’s recent fling Vince Schneider is actually Stu Macher’s nephew. As Ghostface continues to strike, Sam confesses to Tara about her own struggles with hallucinations of Billy Loomis – who she discovers is her biological father, causing their parents’ separation and Sam’s estrangement.

The following day, Sam and Richie visit Dewey Riley in his depressed state after his divorce from Gale Weathers. They seek his assistance in stopping the killer, and he later reaches out to Sidney Prescott and Gale to warn them about Ghostface’s return. Dewey joins the teenagers at Mindy and Chad’s house, where he is reunited with Martha, the twins’ mother who happens to be Randy Meeks’ sister. As the killer continues to target individuals connected to the original killers, Sam becomes a prime suspect. Tragically, Ghostface claims the lives of Wes and Sheriff Judy Hicks at their residence.
