Self/less (2015) is an American science fiction action thriller film directed by Tarsem Singh, produced by Ram Bergman and James D. Stern and written by Alex and David Pastor. The movie follows the story of billionaire New Yorker Damian Hale, who is faced with a terminal cancer diagnosis. In search of a cure, he stumbles upon Professor Albright, who introduces him to a medical procedure known as ‘shedding’. This groundbreaking procedure promises to transfer one’s consciousness into a younger body, effectively granting them immortality. Tempted by the possibility of a new life, Damian agrees to undergo the shedding process and follows Albright’s instructions to fake his own death. With his new identity as Edward Kidner, Damian begins his rejuvenated life in New Orleans.
However, things take an unexpected turn when he forgets to take his prescribed medication for hallucinations that apparently are side effects of the procedure. Damian (as Edward) questions Albright, who dismisses it, but accidentally mentions details of the hallucinations that Damian had not disclosed. Albright then arranges for Damian to take a trip to Hawaii. However, convinced that his hallucinations hold real memories, Damian identifies a landmark he saw in his vision and decides to visit a farmhouse outside of St. Louis. There, he meets Madeline, who mistakes him for her deceased husband Mark. Despite feeling shocked at this revelation, Damian plays along as Mark and learns that Mark may have made a deal with Albright to pay for their daughter Anna’s treatment. Suddenly, they are attacked by Anton and other men working for Albright.
