Sharp Objects (2018) is an American miniseries based on Gillian Flynn’s debut novel of the same name, which aired on HBO on July 8, 2018. Recently released from a psychiatric hospital, reporter Camille Preaker is faced with a difficult assignment: she must return to her small hometown to investigate the murders of two young girls. Camille has had little contact with her anxious, hypochondriac mother or her half-sister, a stunning 13-year-old who seems to have an unsettling hold over the town. As she settles into her old bedroom in the family’s Victorian mansion, Camille can’t help but feel a strong connection to the victims. However, she must confront her own demons and unravel the complex puzzle of her past if she hopes to uncover the truth and survive this unexpected homecoming.
St. Louis-based reporter Camille Preaker is facing two personal challenges: alcoholism and self-harm. Haunted by memories of her troubled childhood in the small town of Wind Gap, Missouri, she receives a new assignment from her editor Frank Curry. Camille is tasked with returning to Wind Gap, where the community is still reeling from the murder of 13-year-old Ann Nash and the disappearance of 14-year-old Natalie Keene. Her flashbacks only intensify as she arrives in Wind Gap and decides to stay with her socialite mother Adora Crellin, stepfather Alan, and teenage half-sister Amma. As she joins a search party led by Detective Richard Willis, Camille also speaks with Bob Nash about his missing daughter. Tragically, later that day Natalie’s body is found behind the police station. While staying with her family, Camille and Amma bond over their deceased sister Marian, but Amma reveals that she secretly resents their mother’s treatment and hides behind a childish facade.
