She’s All That (1999), an American teen romantic comedy film directed by Robert Iscove, follows the story of Zack Siler, the popular guy at his Southern California high school. He is heartbroken after finding out his girlfriend, Taylor, has cheated on him with reality TV star Brock during spring break. Zack finds comfort in the idea that Taylor can easily be replaced by any girl at their school. His friend Dean disagrees and challenges him to turn any random girl into the prom queen in six weeks. Dean chooses Laney Boggs, an unpopular art student, for this bet. Despite Laney initially ignoring Zack’s attempts at befriending her, she agrees to help him with art after he persists. When they attend a small theater lounge together where Laney will perform, he surprises her by performing onstage with his hacky sack skills. Though impressed, Laney rejects his charms once again when he tries to pursue her further. However, Zack doesn’t give up and invites her to hang out with him and his friends at the beach and later at a party where she reluctantly agrees to go. He also gets his sister Mack involved in giving Laney a makeover.

At the party, Taylor embarrasses Laney and brings her to tears because she is jealous of her and embarrassed by Brock. To Laney’s surprise, she is nominated for prom queen alongside Taylor. The next day, Zack visits Laney’s house and asks about her late mother while sharing his own family pressures. After leaning in for a kiss, Zack pulls back when Laney jokes that he just wants her vote for prom king. In a separate incident, Zack stands up for Laney’s brother, Simon, against bullies in the cafeteria. Dean later asks Laney to be his prom date after having a falling out with Zack. Seeking revenge against Brock dumping her, Taylor tries to cozy up to Zack but gets rejected. She then reveals that Dean has already asked Laney to the prom when confronted by Zack. This leads to Dean admitting that their relationship was part of a bet, causing a public confession from Zack. A furious Laney storms out and refuses to speak to Zack.
