Sing (2016)

Sing (2016) is an American animated jukebox musical comedy film produced by Illumination Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures. In Calatonia, a city of anthropomorphic animals, koala Buster Moon faces financial struggle with his theater. Bank representative llama Judith threatens foreclosure. To save his theater, Buster decides to hold a singing competition with a grand prize of $1,000. However, a mistake made by his assistant iguana Miss Crawly causes the flyers to advertise a prize of $100,000 instead. The flyers are unfortunately blown out of the window before proofreading can take place, causing animals from all over the city to show up for auditions. From this diverse pool of talent, Buster chooses his contestants – housewife and mother of 25 piglets Rosita, punk-rock porcupine Ash, teenage gorilla Johnny (son of criminal gang leader Big Daddy), street musician mouse Mike, and an exuberant dancing pig named Gunter. Unfortunately, teenage elephant Meena’s stage fright causes her to fail her audition and Ash’s self-absorbed boyfriend Lance is disappointed not to be chosen for the competition. In the end, Rosita is partnered with Gunter for a dance routine.

Upon discovering the flyers promise a grand prize of $100,000, Buster decides to accompany his friend Eddie, a sheep, on a visit to Eddie’s wealthy grandmother Nana Noodleman, a former theater star. Initially hesitant to sponsor the prize money, Nana agrees to attend a private preview of the show before making her final decision. Meanwhile, under pressure from her grandfather, Meena attempts to secure a second audition but ultimately settles for being Buster’s stagehand. As some contestants drop out of the competition, Meena receives an offer to join the show but continues to struggle with her fears. Rosita also faces challenges in her performance with Gunter as she believes her motherly responsibilities have hindered her passion. In contrast, Mike arrogantly takes out a large loan from the bank and cheats a group of bears in a card game, confident he will win the competition. However, things take an unexpected turn when Lance cheats on Ash causing them to break up and Ash breaking down in tears during rehearsal.
