Sing 2 (2021), an American animated jukebox musical comedy film from Illumination and Universal Pictures, sees Buster Moon thriving in his new theater, a month after the events of the first film. However, despite his efforts to impress talent scout Suki, she believes he won’t succeed in Redshore City. Encouraged by Nana Noodleman, Buster brings together the singers from the previous competition and heads to the city for an audition with entertainment mogul Jimmy Crystal. While Crystal initially shows no interest in Buster’s original show pitch, Gunter introduces a unique space-themed concept featuring Clay Calloway, a rock star who hasn’t been seen in 15 years. Intrigued, Crystal gives them the green light and sets a deadline of three weeks for their show to be up and running.
While the show is in production, Rosita’s fear of heights arises during rehearsals, causing her to relinquish her role to Crystal’s daughter Porsha. In the meantime, Johnny is paired with esteemed choreographer Klaus Kickenklober but feels a sense of animosity from him. Desperate for help, Johnny meets street dancer Nooshy who agrees to assist him. Meena is cast in a romantic scene with the conceited actor Darius, whom she has no chemistry with. However, she later falls for an ice cream vendor named Alfonso. Ash and Buster go to persuade retired singer Clay Calloway to join the show but he initially declines. After Ash convinces him otherwise, Buster suggests swapping roles with Rosita for Porsha since Rosita struggles with acting. This miscommunication causes Porsha to believe she has been fired and leads Crystal to angrily confront Buster before locking him in a closet.
