The American action thriller film Sleepless (2017), directed by Baran bo Odar and written by Andrea Berloff, is a remake of the French film Sleepless Night in 2011. Two masked men are seen chasing after a van, causing it to crash. The men turn out to be cops – Vincent Downs and Sean Cass (T.I.). As they fight off their attackers and kill one of them, more thugs arrive with guns. In the midst of the chaos, Vincent and Sean manage to steal a duffel bag containing 25 kilograms of cocaine. Vincent has been an Internal Affairs officer for two years and has been focused on investigating a crime ring. He suspects that Sean works for the ring, but his main targets are casino owner Stanley Rubino and the mastermind behind it all, Rob Novak. Meanwhile, Detective Jennifer Bryant enters her department with a cut on her face from a recent incident involving a meth lab bust gone wrong. She confides in a police psychologist about the traumatic experience she had with an aggressive junkie.

Despite the concerns of her colleagues, she remains determined to work on the drug ring case. Vincent and Sean revisit the scene of their crime and gather evidence, while Jennifer joins them for the first time. There is evident tension between Vincent and Jennifer as they both strive to take control of the case. On his way to pick up his son Thomas for sports practice, Vincent learns that his ex-wife Dena is engaged to someone else. Both Dena and Thomas have noticed Vincent’s distance since he took on the case, but are unaware of its details. While driving with Thomas, they suddenly face an ambush on the parkway by two men. In the chaos, Thomas is kidnapped and Vincent gets stabbed in the abdomen. He receives a call from Rubino shortly after.
