Smash and Grab (2019) is a computer-animated short film from Pixar. The story follows two laborer robots, Smash and Grab, on a futuristic planet. They work in a giant train powered by glowing rocks, with Smash breaking them apart and tossing them to Grab. Despite their repetitive task, they try to make their work fun by turning it into a game. However, their power cables prevent them from moving freely or even touching each other. One day, Smash builds a pile of rocks to get a glimpse of the outside world through the train’s window. It discovers that there are free robots who move around easily thanks to spherical batteries that can attach to the same port as their power cables. When some of these batteries are loaded onto the train, Smash cuts its cable and steals two batteries for itself and Grab to escape together.
As Smash and Grab race towards their escape, they are constantly under attack from security robots determined to stop them. While on top of the train, Smash expertly hurls any robots that come through the door to Grab, who strategically flings them against passing obstacles. When one robot manages to shoot off Grab’s arm, Smash immediately tends to their fallen companion. However, they soon find themselves facing a daunting eight security robots. In a bold move, Smash damages their own battery and tosses it at the approaching robots. The explosion sets off a chain reaction that not only destroys the pursuing robots but also causes the train to derail.
