Something to Talk About (1995)
Something to Talk About (1995), a comedy-drama film directed by Lasse Hallström, follows Grace King Bichon, who spends her days helping out at her parent’s horse farm. Her daughter Caroline shares her love for horses, while their stable manager Hank has his sights set on riding Ransom in an upcoming equestrian championship. However, Grace’s father Wyly plans to purchase a stud named Ford instead and ride it himself in the event, causing tension within the family. Adding to Grace’s stress, she discovers her husband Eddie is having an affair. In a dramatic confrontation with Eddie and his mistress, Grace takes their daughter Caroline back to the horse farm where she grew up in hopes of regaining clarity and peace.
Much to her shock and disappointment, those around her still cling to outdated beliefs. Wyly scolds Grace for parading around in her nightdress, a move that brings shame upon their family with Caroline in the car. Georgia points out that even the happiest of marriages can have slip-ups like Eddie’s. In addition to being in a real estate deal with Eddie and his father, Wyly fears risking their current arrangement. He urges Grace to make amends with Eddie, but she firmly refuses. Even Emma Rae, who is enraged at Eddie and makes it known, won’t let Grace deny her role in the situation or act as if she was unaware of Eddie’s past reputation as a womanizer during their college days. Grace begs Hank to stay, but he remains determined to leave once the event ends. Meanwhile, Wyly attempts to practice with Ford but struggles to control the horse properly.
