Something’s Gotta Give (2003) is an American romantic comedy-drama film written, produced and directed by Nancy Meyers. The story follows Harry Sanborn, a wealthy New York record company owner whose preference for dating younger women is put to the test when he meets Marin Klein. As they head to her mother’s beach house in the Hamptons, little do they know that they will be joined by Erica Barry, a playwright and Marin’s mother, as well as Erica’s sister Zoe. After an awkward dinner, things take a turn for the worse when Harry suffers a heart attack during foreplay with Marin and is rushed to the hospital. The doctor in charge, Julian Mercer, advises Harry to stick around for a few days, which leads him to reluctantly stay with Erica. While their contrasting personalities initially make living together uncomfortable, they soon discover endearing qualities about each other and form a bond.

However, obstacles arise in the form of Harry’s relationship with Marin’s daughter and Erica’s budding romance with Julian. Marin breaks the news to her mother that she plans to end things with Harry, but he beats her to it. As Harry starts spending more time with Erica, they eventually give in to their desires and have a sexual encounter. Meanwhile, Julian informs Harry of his readiness to go back to the city. The two share an awkward farewell, as despite their strong feelings for each other, Harry is unsure about committing to a serious relationship. Amidst all this, Marin receives upsetting news that her ex-husband and Erica’s father, Dave Klein, is engaged to a doctor who is only two years older than herself.
