Somewhere (2010) is a film written and directed by Sofia Coppola. It tells the story of Johnny Marco, a newly famous actor recovering from an injury at the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood. The opening scene features a black Ferrari speeding around a desert race track before coming to a stop and revealing Johnny Marco stepping out. Despite his rise to fame, he feels unfulfilled in his daily life as a recently divorced actor. He resides at the Chateau Marmont, nursing his broken wrist in a plaster cast. While he occasionally drinks and socializes with his childhood friend Sammy, also an actor, Marco spends most of his time alone. He drives his car, drinks beer, takes pills, watches pole-dancing twins perform in his room, and has casual sex with various women and aspiring starlets.

Johnny’s 11-year-old daughter, Cleo, pays him an unexpected visit. Amid completing various publicity obligations for his new film – including posing for photos with his disdainful co-star and conducting a press interview – Cleo’s presence initially has minimal impact on Johnny’s routine. They occupy themselves in his room before he takes her along on a promotional excursion to Milan which entails staying in a lavish hotel suite and hosting a blonde woman overnight. While participating as himself in a local celebrity television show, Johnny is presented with a ‘Telegatto’ award. He assists Cleo in getting ready for summer camp, accompanies her on a gambling excursion to Las Vegas, and arranges for a helicopter ride to drop her off at the camp grounds.
