Son of God (2014) is an American epic biblical film that tells the story of Jesus. Directed by Christopher Spencer and produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, the movie is an adaptation of the ten-hour miniseries The Bible, which originally aired on the History channel in March 2013. Following the film, another TV series called A.D. The Bible Continues premiered. John, the last surviving follower of Jesus Christ, resides as a hermit near the seaside where he shares his experiences with Jesus. In Bethlehem, Jesus is born to Mary, a virgin, and her husband Joseph. Three wise men visit and recognize him as the future King. Three decades later, a grown Jesus travels to Galilee to recruit followers such as James and his brother John, Peter who is a fisherman, Matthew who is a tax collector and Mary Magdalene. These individuals will eventually become his disciples.

By teaching and performing numerous miracles, Jesus amasses a significant group of followers who begin to refer to him as the Messiah. This captures the attention of the Pharisees, who serve as leaders in the Jewish community. They accuse Jesus of committing blasphemy by forgiving sins, which they believe is reserved solely for God. However, Jesus responds by declaring himself as the son of God. He then instructs his disciples to travel to Jerusalem for the upcoming Passover holiday. Upon entering the city on a donkey, Jesus is met with an overwhelming crowd of supporters who lay palm leaves in his path. Caiaphas, who holds a high position among the Pharisees, expresses concern that Jesus’ presence will only worsen the already volatile situation between his people and their Roman oppressors, led by Pontius Pilate.
