Spaced (1999 — 2001)
Spaced (1999–2001) is a British television sitcom, created, written by and starring Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson, and directed by Edgar Wright. It follows the unpredictable and humorous journey of two Londoners, Daisy Steiner and Tim Bisley, who cross paths in a café while searching for their own flats. Despite their recent acquaintance, they quickly decide to team up and pose as a young professional couple in order to secure a relatively cheap flat at the distinctive address of 23 Meteor Street in Tufnell Park. Along with them are supporting characters such as Nick Frost as Tim’s best friend Mike, Katy Carmichael as Daisy’s closest friend Twist, Mark Heap as lodger Brian who resides downstairs, and Julia Deakin as their landlady Marsha Klein.
In the same building resides Brian Topp, an eccentric conceptual artist who utilizes the ground-floor flat for his creative projects. Among frequent visitors are Twist Morgan, Daisy’s closest friend, and Mike Watt, Tim’s best friend. As Amber Weary, Marsha’s daughter, moves out, Mike ends up becoming a lodger. The show centers around the surreal and amusing escapades of Tim and Daisy as they navigate through life, grapple with matters of the heart, and seek out unproductive ways to pass time. Despite repeatedly clarifying to everyone except Marsha that they are not romantically involved, tension between them grows during the second series.
