Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994–1998) is an American superhero animated television show based on the Marvel Comics character with the same name. The series follows Peter Parker, a college student at Empire State University who struggles to balance his duties as the costumed hero with the challenges of his personal life. Along with fighting crime, Peter must navigate romantic feelings for love interests Felicia Hardy and Mary Jane Watson; maintain his friendship with Harry Osborn; excel academically as a student of Dr. Curt Connors; and support Aunt May after losing Uncle Ben by working as a freelance photographer for the Daily Bugle. This newspaper is run by noisemaker publisher J. Jonah Jameson, who frequently uses Peter’s photos of Spider-Man to discredit and launch a smear campaign against the web-slinging hero.
Peter’s circle of peers at ESU consists of a diverse group, including renowned football star Flash Thompson, talented barista Liz Allan, brilliant scientist Debra Whitman, and formidable research rival Michael Morbius. As his alter ego Spider-Man, Peter must confront an array of dangerous adversaries in order to protect New York City. These threats range from cunning masterminds like the Kingpin and the Hobgoblin to scientific mishaps embodied by Doctor Octopus and the Green Goblin. Additionally, he must also face extraterrestrial foes such as Venom and Carnage. In times of need, Spider-Man can often count on the assistance of fellow superheroes such as the X-Men, the Punisher, Blade, Doctor Strange, Daredevil, Iron Man, Captain America, and the Fantastic Four.
