Spiral (2021)

Spiral (2021) is an American horror-thriller directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and scripted by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger. Serving as a stand-alone sequel to Jigsaw, the ninth installment of the Saw film series, the storyline centers around Detective Marv Bozwick, who, while off-duty at a Fourth of July parade, chases a thief into a sewer drain. Suddenly ambushed from behind by an unknown figure donning a pig mask, Bozwick awakens to find himself hanging above an active subway tunnel with only one choice presented via recorded message: live, or face certain death when the next train arrives. Despite his efforts, Bozwick is unable to escape the trap in time and is hit and killed by the train.

The following day, Police Captain Angie Garza assigns Detective Zeke Banks a new partner – idealistic rookie William Schenk – as they launch an investigation into Bozwick’s untimely demise. While going over evidence, Banks recognizes the complex setup as similar to that of the now-deceased Jigsaw Killer’s signature style. As events unfold, it is discovered that homicide detective Fitch, who had previously disregarded a call for backup from Banks and putting his life in danger, has been taken captive and meets his demise. This raises suspicion among some officers as Banks had a history with Fitch. The police receive a package containing a pig puppet and a fragment of Schenk’s tattooed skin, leading them to a former hobby shop turned butcher shop which was frequented by Banks and his father, retired chief Marcus Banks.
