Spy (2015)
In the American spy action comedy film Spy (2015), directed by Paul Feig, Susan Cooper is a 40-year-old CIA employee who supports her partner Bradley Fine on a mission remotely from her desk. However, during a mission to retrieve information from arms dealer Tihomir Boyanov, Fine accidentally kills him without obtaining the location of a dangerous suitcase nuke. This leads Susan to discover that Rayna, Boyanov’s daughter, has made contact with terrorist Sergio De Luca. Seeking justice for her deceased partner, Susan offers to track down Rayna even though she has never served in the field and is unknown among other agents like Rick Ford and Karen Walker. Despite hesitation from her boss Elaine Crocker and objections from macho agent Ford, Susan is determined to complete the mission at any cost.
With Nancy, her best friend and colleague, providing remote intelligence, Susan ventures to Paris. A rogue Ford suddenly appears, once again questioning her abilities due to lack of experience. Despite this discouragement, Susan presses on and discovers that De Luca’s office has been destroyed in a fire. While sifting through the rubble, she comes across a photo of a man standing near the flames. Once again facing off with Ford, she witnesses the mysterious man swapping Ford’s backpack for one containing a bomb. Not wasting any time, Susan rushes to warn Ford during a Verka Serduchka concert. In the midst of all the chaos, she pursues the man and unintentionally takes his life during their confrontation. On his person, Susan finds evidence that De Luca is heading to Rome. More determined than ever before, Crocker sends Susan on a mission to Rome.
