The American science fiction action film, Star Trek Beyond (2016), directed by Justin Lin and written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, is based on the popular television series created by Gene Roddenberry. The Federation starship USS Enterprise has arrived at starbase Yorktown for a resupply and shore leave for its crew. In the midst of their five-year exploration, Captain James T. Kirk has applied for a promotion to vice admiral and has recommended Spock as his replacement. Meanwhile, Hikaru Sulu reconnects with his family, Montgomery Scott ensures the ship stays operational, and Spock’s relationship with Nyota Uhura has ended. Additionally, he receives news from New Vulcan about the passing of Ambassador Spock, his alternate-universe counterpart. When an escape pod drifts out of an uncharted nebula nearby, Enterprise is sent on a rescue mission to Altamid planet upon receiving a distress call from Kalara who claims her ship is stranded there.
Upon reaching their destination, the Enterprise is immediately bombarded by a large group of small vessels, led by Krall. The hostile swarm swiftly begins to dismantle the ship. Krall and his crew then board the damaged Enterprise, resulting in numerous crew members being taken prisoner or killed. Their main target is the Abronath, a valuable artifact obtained on a recent mission. In response, Kirk gives the order for everyone to evacuate and abandon the deteriorating vessel, which eventually crashes onto Altamid. On the planet’s surface, Krall manages to capture Sulu, Uhura, and other survivors. Meanwhile, Kirk and Pavel Chekov team up with Kalara to locate the saucer section of the Enterprise. Suspicious of Kalara’s actions before the ambush, Kirk uses her betrayal as a way to gain momentum against Krall’s soldiers and successfully escape with Chekov. During their getaway, they destroy Kalara by causing the saucer section to topple over her.
