Star Trek: Discovery (2017 — 2024)

Created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman for the streaming service CBS All Access (now known as Paramount+), Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2024) is the seventh installment in the Star Trek franchise. The series premiered in 2017, following the crew of the starship Discovery during the 23rd century, a decade before Star Trek: The Original Series. In subsequent seasons, they travel to the 32nd century in a new setting. The first season aired on CBS and CBS All Access beginning on September 24, 2017, with weekly releases until February 2018. The second and third season were released exclusively on All Access from January to April 2019 and October 2020 to January 2021 respectively. Most recently, the fourth season ran on Paramount+ from November 2021 to March 2022. A fifth and final season has been confirmed for release in April 2024 with ten episodes.

The series starts a decade prior to Star Trek: The Original Series, when Commander Michael Burnham accidentally initiates a conflict between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire. She is demoted, reassigned to the USS Discovery, and introduced to their unique ‘Spore Drive’ propulsion system. After a journey to an alternate universe, Discovery aids in ending the Klingon war. In the following season, they investigate seven enigmatic signals and encounter the mysterious ‘Red Angel’, while also battling a rogue artificial intelligence. This ultimately leads them 900 years into the future, where they find a fragmented Federation and begin to uncover the cause of a catastrophic event known as the ‘Burn’. By the end of this season, Burnham earns her captaincy aboard Discovery. In season four, they work towards rebuilding the Federation amidst an unstable space anomaly created by unidentified extraterrestrial beings. And in their fifth season, Discovery embarks on an intergalactic quest in search of a powerful ancient force being sought after by multiple dangerous factions.
