Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) is a renowned American sci-fi movie directed by Nicholas Meyer and based on the popular TV series. In the year 2285, Admiral James T. Kirk presides over a trainee simulation supervised by Captain Spock. In this simulation, Lieutenant Saavik leads the USS Enterprise on a rescue mission to save the crew of Kobayashi Maru, a damaged ship. However, they are unexpectedly attacked by Klingon cruisers and suffer severe damage. This simulation is known as a no-win scenario, specifically designed to test the mettle of Starfleet officers. Later, on his birthday, Dr. McCoy visits Kirk and notices his low spirits due to growing older behind a desk. He suggests that Kirk should seek new commands instead of remaining desk-bound as he ages. In the meantime, the starship Reliant embarks on its own mission to locate an uninhabited planet for testing out the Genesis Device – a revolutionary technology capable of transforming lifeless matter into habitable worlds.
Reliant’s Captain Clark Terrell and first officer Commander Pavel Chekov are beamed down to a planet that they mistakenly think is Ceti Alpha VI. However, they quickly realize that they are actually on Ceti Alpha V, where they encounter the genetically-engineered tyrant Khan Noonien Singh. This is the same Khan who was exiled by Kirk fifteen years ago for attempting to take over Enterprise. Unfortunately, shortly after their exile, Ceti Alpha VI exploded, transforming the once-habitable Ceti Alpha V into a barren wasteland. The explosion killed many of Khan’s people and forced the survivors to adapt to harsh conditions. To make matters worse, the native parasitic creatures known as Ceti eels claimed even more of Khan’s followers, including his wife. In an act of revenge and control, Khan implants eel larvae into Chekov and Terrell’s bodies, making them vulnerable to his mind control. Using this tactic, he forces them to help him capture Reliant.
