Serving as the first installment in the Star Wars series, it is the fourth chapter in the Skywalker Saga. The story takes place during a galactic civil war, where the Rebel Alliance has obtained plans to the Death Star from Imperial spies. This massive space station has been constructed by the tyrannical Galactic Empire and has the capability to annihilate entire planets. Among those involved in retrieving these schematics is Rebel leader, Imperial Senator Leia Organa of Alderaan. However, her mission is compromised when she is intercepted and captured by an Imperial Star Destroyer commanded by Darth Vader.
Meanwhile, droids R2-D2 and C3PO escape with the plans and crash land on Tatooine, where they are taken in by moisture farmers Owen and Beru Lars along with their nephew Luke Skywalker. As Luke cleans R2-D2, he discovers a recording from Leia asking for help from someone familiar- Obi-Wan Kenobi. An elderly hermit named Obi-Wan rescues him. This man tells Luke about his past as one of the legendary Jedi Knights. These peacekeepers of the Galactic Republic possessed mystical abilities from a force known as ‘the Force’. Sadly, they were almost completely wiped out by the Empire. Luke also discovers that his father was one of these Jedi who fought alongside Obi-Wan in the Clone Wars. However, he was ultimately betrayed by his former student Vader, who turned to the dark side and killed him.
