The American epic space opera film, Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980), was directed by Irvin Kershner and written by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan, based on a story by George Lucas.Three years after the destruction of the Death Star, Darth Vader and the Imperial fleet send out probe droids to find the Rebel Alliance. The probe locates their base on Hoth, an ice planet. Luke Skywalker falls into the clutches of a wampa, but he uses the Force to retrieve his lightsaber and wound the creature before succumbing to hypothermia. Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Force spirit appears to Luke and instructs him to go to Dagobah to train as a Jedi Knight under Yoda. Han Solo rescues Luke and keeps him warm inside a tauntaun mount until they are rescued the next morning.
Upon learning of the Rebels’ whereabouts, the Empire stages a massive attack using AT-AT walkers, causing them to flee their base. Han, Princess Leia, C-3PO and Chewbacca manage to escape aboard the Millennium Falcon, but encounter a malfunctioning hyperdrive. Seeking refuge in an asteroid field, Han and Leia develop a deeper connection amid the tense situation. In response to this chaos, Vader enlists the help of several bounty hunters, including Boba Fett, to track down the Falcon. Despite evading the Imperial fleet, Han’s group ventures to Cloud City on Bespin, where they are met with Lando Calrissian – an old acquaintance of Han’s. However, their hiding place is soon discovered by Fett and Leia is taken captive by Vader as he plans for Luke to come to her rescue. Meanwhile, Luke sets off for Dagobah in his X-wing fighter with R2-D2 as his companion.
