Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983) is an American space opera film directed by Richard Marquand. The screenplay was written by Lawrence Kasdan and George Lucas based on a story by Lucas, who also served as the executive producer. One year after Han Solo’s capture, C-3PO and R2-D2 are sent by Luke Skywalker to rescue him from Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine in exchange for a trade. Disguised as a male bounty hunter, Princess Leia joins in the mission but is captured and enslaved while trying to unfreeze Han from carbonite. Later on, Luke himself arrives at the palace to negotiate for their release but gets thrown into a trapdoor by Jabba. He then faces a rancor but manages to kill it before being sentenced to death along with Han and Chewbacca.

However, using his new green lightsaber hidden inside R2-D2, Luke breaks free and they all engage in battle against Jabba’s men aboard his sail barge. Amid the mayhem, Boba Fett plummets into the sarlacc when Han inadvertently damages his jet pack. In the meantime, Leia uses her chains to strangle Jabba to his demise. Once they’ve toppled Jabba’s sail barge, the group makes a swift escape. As the others meet up with the Rebel Alliance, Luke heads back to Dagobah to complete his Jedi training with Yoda, who is nearing death. Yoda confirms that Darth Vader is Luke’s father – once a Jedi Knight named Anakin Skywalker – and also reveals that there is another Skywalker before passing away and becoming one with the Force.
