Stargate SG-1: Children of the Gods – Final Cut (2009) is the debut installment of Stargate SG-1, a military science fiction TV show. It was written by producers Jonathan Glassner and Brad Wright, and directed by Mario Azzopardi. The episode originally aired on July 27, 1997 on Showtime as a TV movie before being split into two parts for repeats and syndicated viewings. On July 21, 2009, an updated version titled Children of the Gods – The Final Cut was released. At an underground United States Air Force base known as Stargate Command in the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, five airmen are playing poker in front of the inactive Stargate. One of them, Carol Weterings, worries about being caught by an officer. However, her colleague reminds her that this part of the base has been abandoned since the program shut down. Suddenly, the room begins to shake as the Stargate activates.

Armored Jaffa soldiers, recognizable by their serpent helmets, emerged from the Stargate and apprehended Weterings. Teal’c, their leader Apophis’s most trusted warrior, presented her for inspection before giving the order to attack. The resulting battle claimed the lives of the other airmen. As the attackers retreated through the Stargate, Major General Hammond and his troops arrived just in time to witness Weterings being taken through. O’Neill was brought to Cheyenne Mountain along with his former teammates Kawalsky and Ferretti for questioning about their first mission to Abydos via the Stargate. Despite Hammond’s efforts, O’Neill remained tight-lipped and unwilling to divulge any more information than what was already reported. Faced with this dilemma, Hammond felt that the only solution was to send a nuclear bomb through the Stargate to Abydos in order to eradicate the threat once and for all.
