Extract (2009)
Extract (2009), an American comedy film written and directed by Mike Judge, centers around Joel Reynolds, the owner and founder of Reynolds Extract. While his business is thriving, his marriage lacks excitement and he frequently deals with his bothersome neighbor, Nathan. One day, an unfortunate incident occurs at the factory resulting in employee Step losing a testicle. This catches the attention of Cindy, a con artist who reads about it in the news. She devises a plan to make easy money by getting a job at the factory and manipulates Joel for inside information on Step. In addition, she begins stealing from her colleagues causing tensions among them. Despite initially choosing not to take legal action against the company, Step has a change of heart after meeting with Cindy and her flirtatious ways. Under her influence, he hires attorney Joe Adler.
Joel, initially believing Cindy had genuine feelings for him, considers having an affair with her. However, he still loves his wife and doesn’t want to do anything that he might regret later on. While venting to his friend Dean about his predicament, Dean suggests hiring a gigolo to seduce Joel’s wife as a form of ‘revenge’ for her making him feel desired. Initially rejecting the idea, Joel’s impaired judgment caused by mistakenly taking ketamine instead of Xanax leads him to agree with Dean’s suggestion. The two friends enlist Brad, posing as a pool cleaner, to seduce Joel’s wife Suzie. The following morning, Joel comes to his senses and tries to intervene before Brad and Suzie become involved; however, it is too late as they have already begun an affair. In the end, Brad falls for Suzie and plans to run away with her.
