Step Brothers (2008) is an American comedy film, directed by Adam McKay and produced by Jimmy Miller and Judd Apatow. The screenplay was co-written by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. The movie follows the story of Brennan Huff, a 39-year-old living with his divorced mother Nancy, and Dale Doback, a 40-year-old residing with his widowed father Robert. When Nancy and Robert get married, the two step brothers are forced to live together under one roof. Initially, they cannot stand each other and their animosity leads to a physical altercation after Brennan touches Dale’s drum set with his testicles. As punishment, they are grounded without television for a week and must find jobs within a month or face eviction. When Brennan’s younger brother Derek, who works as a successful helicopter leasing agent, pays them a visit with his family, he belittles the step brothers. This leads to Dale punching Derek in the face.

Brennan is amazed by Dale’s bravery in standing up to Derek, while Alice, Derek’s discontented wife, finds Dale’s courage appealing. The two men quickly discover their shared interests, especially when it comes to music. Meanwhile, Robert has arranged for them to have several job interviews, but unfortunately they don’t go as well as planned. On their way home, they are even attacked by a group of unruly school children. To top it off, Robert and Nancy drop the bombshell that they plan on selling the house and sailing around the world on Robert’s sailboat with Derek’s help. Feeling concerned for Brennan and Dale’s future, they also arrange for them to receive therapy and set up bank accounts to support them until they are able to find employment. Despite Brennan feeling a strong attraction towards his therapist, Denise does not share these feelings.
