Sucker Punch (2011), an American psychological fantasy action film, is the directorial debut of Zack Snyder and was co-written by him and Steve Shibuya. The story follows a young woman named Babydoll who accidentally shoots her sister while trying to defend herself from their abusive stepfather. After discovering that their mother left everything to her daughters in her will, the stepfather has Babydoll institutionalized under false pretenses and bribes orderly Blue Jones to have her undergo a lobotomy. In a state of delusion, Babydoll imagines the asylum as a brothel owned by mobster Blue, with herself and the other patients serving as sex slaves. She forms connections with inmates Amber, Blondie, Rocket, and Sweet Pea (Rocket’s sister), who is considered the ‘star of the show’.
Their dance instructor is Dr. Gorski. Blue informs Babydoll that he intends to sell her virginity to a wealthy client known as the High Roller – who is actually the doctor scheduled to perform her lobotomy. Gorski enlists Babydoll to perform a seductive dance, transporting herself to feudal Japan where she meets the Wise Man. He gifts her with weapons and reveals that she needs four specific items – a map, fire, a knife, and a key – to escape. There is also a mysterious fifth item that only she can discover. To obtain it, she must make a significant sacrifice for the ultimate triumph. Babydoll battles three enormous samurai warriors before returning to the brothel, impressing both Blue and the spectators. She persuades her fellow captives to join her in breaking free.
