Summer Rain (2006)
Summer Rain (2006) is a romantic drama film directed by Spanish actor Antonio Banderas from a screenplay by Antonio Soler, which is based on his novel of the same name. Set in 1978 in Málaga, Spain, the movie follows the story of teenager Miguelito Dávila. After being diagnosed with kidney disease and spending time in the hospital, he develops a love for classic poetry, specifically Dante’s Divine Comedy. Despite working at a hardware store, Miguelito holds onto his dream of becoming a poet. One summer, he spends time with childhood friends Babirusa, Paco Frontón and Moratalla. However, everything changes when he meets Luli at the swimming pool and they begin dating.
Luli aspires to be a professional dancer and is especially close with ‘La cuerpo’, who has a liking for Paco, a well-off friend of Miguelito. The two pairs often hang out together at the pool, and gradually explore other diversions. Eventually, Miguelito catches the attention of an older instructor, who sees potential in his skills. At around the same time, Luli receives attention from Cardona, an older man who appears to have wealth, and offers to assist her in her dancing career.
