In Take the Lead (2006), an American drama dance film directed by Liz Friedlander, Antonio Banderas portrays Pierre Dulaine, a dance instructor and the creator of Dancing Classrooms. As a group of students prepares for their school dance, Rock shows up with a damaged ticket and is turned away by Mr. Temple and Principal James. Later, he gets into trouble with some thugs who pressure him to vandalize the Principal’s car. However, when Pierre arrives and interrupts them, they scatter. The next day, Pierre visits the school to speak with the Principal about what he saw. Seeing an opportunity to make a difference, he offers to take over detention and teach the students ballroom dancing. While initially doubtful, she agrees to let him try, thinking he won’t last long.
Unfortunately, his first class is met with skepticism and uncooperative behavior from the students. Upon Pierre’s return the next morning, Principal James reveals that LaRhette had declined to dance with Rock due to his brother’s involvement in a gang conflict. Sadly, one of the casualties was LaRhette’s own sibling. Meanwhile, at Pierre’s dance studio, Caitlin is feeling the pressure to perfect her dancing skills for her upcoming cotillion. She can’t help but admire Morgan for her graceful sensuality and even compares her to ‘sex on hardwood’. This leads Pierre to come up with a plan to engage the students in detention. He invites Morgan to showcase her tango skills and her performance sparks enthusiasm among the students. Motivated by this experience, Caitlin decides to join in on the dance class and practices alongside Monster.
