The American black horror comedy film, Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight (1995), directed by Ernest Dickerson, follows the story of drifter Frank Brayker on a desert road in New Mexico. He is being pursued by The Collector, a powerful demon in human form. After their vehicles collide, Brayker manages to escape. A local drunk named Uncle Willy happens upon him and takes him to a converted church that now serves as a boarding house. Here, Brayker rents a room and meets the other residents: owner Irene, prostitute Cordelia, postal clerk Wally, and ex-convict Jeryline who is on work release. Shortly after his arrival, cook Roach also joins them and informs them about an attempted theft on his employer’s car. Unbeknownst to them all, it was Brayker who attempted it. Irene becomes suspicious and calls the sheriff for help.
When Sheriff Tupper and Deputy Bob arrive at the crash site, they encounter The Collector who convinces them that Brayker is a dangerous thief. While staying at the boarding house, Tupper and Bob discover that Brayker possesses a valuable artifact and is using false identification. Tupper receives news from his headquarters that both cars have been stolen and he proceeds to apprehend both Brayker and The Collector. Tragically, The Collector violently ends Tupper’s life by plunging his fist through his skull. Using the key-shaped object held by Brayker, The Collector is forced to flee outside, where he summons a group of demonic creatures by shedding his own blood onto the sand. When attempting to gain entry into the house proves futile, The Collector resorts to using psychic abilities to manipulate Cordelia into submission.
