Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) is a science fiction action film and the third installment in the Terminator franchise. It serves as a sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). Following the destruction of Cyberdyne Systems ten years prior, John Connor has been living as a nomad, grieving his mother’s death. Despite initially believing that Skynet has been defeated, John still fears that the malevolent artificial intelligence is targeting him. In an attempt to change the future, Skynet sends back an advanced prototype Terminator called the T-X to kill John’s future allies. In response, the human resistance sends back a reprogrammed T-850 Terminator, covered in living flesh, to protect John and Kate Brewster in present-day Los Angeles. After eliminating its other targets, the T-X tracks down the pair at an animal hospital where Kate is employed.
John becomes the T-X’s main focus, but with the help of the Terminator they are able to flee. They end up at a mausoleum where Sarah, John’s mother, is supposedly buried. Inside her coffin, they discover a weapons cache that Sarah had requested in case Judgment Day was not prevented and the Terminators returned. In order to elude both the police and the pursuing T-X, they engage in a heated battle before making their escape. The Terminator reveals that despite John and Sarah’s efforts, Judgment Day has only been postponed and Skynet will launch its attack on that very day. With this knowledge, the Terminator plans to take them to Mexico to avoid the nuclear fallout when Skynet strikes. However, John has his own plan and instructs the Terminator to bring him and Kate to meet her father, U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General Robert Brewster.
