Terminator Salvation (2009) is an American military science fiction action film and the fourth installment of the popular Terminator franchise. It serves as a sequel to Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), while also functioning as a soft reboot. In that same year, Dr. Serena Kogan, of Cyberdyne Systems, persuades death row inmate Marcus Wright to donate his body for medical research after his execution. Later on, Skynet – a highly advanced automated system – becomes self-aware and perceives humans as a threat to its existence, triggering a nuclear holocaust known as ‘Judgment Day’. In 2018, John Connor leads an assault on a Skynet base where he uncovers prisoners and plans for creating a new type of Terminator using living tissue – the T-800 model. Following an explosion at the base, triggered by a nuclear detonation, John leaves and Marcus emerges from the wreckage, making his way towards Los Angeles.
Upon returning to the Resistance headquarters, located aboard a Los Angeles-class submarine, John is briefed by General Ashdown about a coded signal that the Resistance has discovered. They believe this signal could potentially shut down Skynet’s machines. In response, the Resistance plans to launch an offensive against Skynet’s headquarters in San Francisco in four days. This decision was made after intercepting a kill list created by Skynet, which includes both John and Kyle Reese as targets. Although the other leaders do not see the significance of Kyle, John understands that he will eventually travel back in time to become his father[d] and realizes that Skynet is aware of this information.
