The 15:17 to Paris (2018) is an American biographical drama film directed by Clint Eastwood and written by Dorothy Blyskal. Based on the 2016 autobiography The 15:17 to Paris: The True Story of a Terrorist, a Train, and Three American Heroes, the film centers around Spencer Stone and Alek Skarlatos during their time at a suburban Christian middle school. Despite being disciplined frequently for their shared interest in guns, they form a friendship with Anthony Sadler, who also tends to get in trouble at school. Raised by single mothers, Spencer and Alek are often defended by their moms when called to the principal’s office. While working at a smoothie shop, Spencer meets a recruiter for the United States Marine Corps who inspires him with stories of pararescue missions in the Air Force.

Intrigued by the idea, Spencer joins the Air Force and begins working out to get in shape. After months of training, he enlists hoping to become a Pararescueman. However, his dreams are dashed when he is rejected from pararescue school due to poor depth perception. Disappointed, he chooses another option in the Air Force and is soon stationed overseas. Meanwhile, Alek has joined the National Guard and is currently deployed in Afghanistan. They plan to meet up in Germany during their next leave after Alek tells Spencer on Skype that he will be visiting his girlfriend there. Deciding to make it a trip with friends, Spencer also convinces Anthony, who is now studying in college, to join them in Europe.
