The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)
The film, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984), follows the American science fiction comedy genre and was created by W.D. Richter, directed by Earl Mac Rauch. Banzai and Dr. Tohichi Hikita perfect the ‘oscillation overthruster’: a device that allows an object to pass through solid matter. Banzai decides to test the machine himself and successfully drives his Jet Car through a mountain, ending up in another dimension. Upon returning, he discovers that an alien organism has attached itself to his car. Meanwhile, inmate Dr. Emilio Lizardo from Trenton Home for the Criminally Insane sees a news story about Banzai’s experiment and realizes that he has finally accessed the 8th dimension after his own attempt years ago went wrong.
Lizardo escapes and plans to steal the overthruster from Banzai’s possession. Banzai and his band, ‘The Hong Kong Cavaliers’, are playing at a nightclub when he interrupts their musical intro to talk to a depressed woman in the audience, Penny Priddy. During a special song he dedicates to her, she attempts suicide, which is wrongly assumed to be an assassination plot against Banzai. After questioning her and bailing her out of jail, he discovers that she is his late wife Peggy’s identical twin sister who went missing. Later, during a press conference about his Jet Car feat and encounter with alien life in the 8th dimension, Banzai is unexpectedly shocked while taking a call.
