The Ant Bully (2006)
The Ant Bully (2006), an American animated film written and directed by John A. Davis, is based on the eponymous children’s book by John Nickle from 1999. When Lucas Nickle’s parents go to Puerto Vallarta for their anniversary, he is left with his sister Tiffany and grandmother. Neglected and bullied by Steve, Lucas takes out his anger on an anthill in his yard. Zoc, an odd sorcerer ant, wants to retaliate while Hova, a nurse ant fascinated by humans, desires to communicate with him. To shrink Lucas down to ant size, the colony leader decides to use Zoc’s new potion. Stan Beals, a local exterminator, persuades Lucas to sign a contract to kill the pests. That night, Zoc and a group of ants pour the potion into Lucas’ ear; when he wakes up he finds himself naked and shrunken down in front of the colony for judgment. Despite Zoc wanting to study and eat him, the Queen orders Lucas to do hard labor instead.
Hova takes on the task of training Lucas, with the help of her companions Kreela and Fugax. This greatly embarrasses Zoc, as they discover the differences between ants and humans. During an attack by tarantula hawks, Lucas comes across a discarded firecracker from Steve and uses it to scare off the wasps, impressing all the ants except for Zoc. The group then shows Lucas a painting featuring the Great Ant Mother and their enemy, the Cloud-Breather. They explain that while the Great Ant Mother will bless them with honeydew, the Cloud-Breather will bring destruction upon them. Realizing that the Cloud-Breather is actually an exterminator, Lucas suggests going to his house for jelly beans while he tries to nullify Beals’ contract. However, he mistakenly calls a pizzeria instead. As they plan their escape through the sink pipe, Tiffany appears in the kitchen and attacks Lucas and his friends.
