The Bedroom Window (1987)

The American neo-noir psychological thriller film, The Bedroom Window (1987), was directed by Curtis Hanson. After an office party, Terry invites his boss’s wife Sylvia to his apartment and they end up in bed together. When Sylvia sees a man attacking a young woman outside the window, she calls out and the assailant flees. The next day, when it is reported that the young woman was murdered near Terry’s apartment that night, he decides to inform the police about what Sylvia witnessed but claims that he saw it instead in order to protect her. However, during a police lineup neither Terry nor the victim Denise can identify the attacker, Chris. Despite the lack of evidence against him, Chris is put on trial for the assault. During the proceedings, his lawyer proves that Terry was not wearing his contact lenses as he is short-sighted and supposed to be asleep when the attack occurred, making it impossible for him to have witnessed anything.
After Chris is released, not only the authorities, but also Denise and Sylvia are shocked by Terry’s incompetence. In the courtroom, Chris identifies Sylvia as the woman he saw at the window. Desperate to warn her, Terry tracks her down during a ballet performance and urges her to go to the police. However, she refuses to get further involved. As he leaves, Terry notices Chris’s distinct truck parked outside and rushes back in. Unfortunately, it is too late – Sylvia has been fatally stabbed in the darkness and dies in Terry’s arms. Seeking refuge with Denise, she seduces him before offering him an opportunity to make amends. Seeking revenge against Chris, they come up with a plan to entice him into another attack. Disguising herself at a bar where Chris is drinking, Denise sends signals of her availability to him.
