The Bible (2013) is a television miniseries based on the biblical accounts, produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett. Originally aired on History channel in March 2013, it was later adapted into a feature film called Son of God. This epic biblical drama covers Genesis to Revelation in ten hour-long episodes, presented in five pairs. Each episode features live-action and computer-generated imagery to portray two or three biblical stories. Notable stories such as Noah’s Ark, the Exodus, and the life of Jesus Christ are included according to Burnett. The series draws from both the Old Testament and New Testament, specifically the New International Version and New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.
According to Downey and Burnett, their ‘greatest desire’ in creating the series was to ‘impact a new generation of viewers and bring them back to the Bible’. In an op-ed for The Huffington Post, they expressed their goal of demonstrating that the Bible is not simply a collection of individual stories with isolated discussions and references. Rather, they sought to highlight the seamless connection between the Old and New Testaments, which together tell one grand story with a powerful message: God’s love for each person is limitless and personal.
