The Bling Ring (2013)
The crime film, The Bling Ring (2013), was written and directed by Sofia Coppola. After quietly transferring to Indian Hills High School in Agoura Hills, California, Marc Hall is quickly befriended by Rebecca Ahn, who has an unhealthy obsession with fame. Despite his reservations, Marc agrees to accompany Rebecca on her thieving ventures, where they target unlocked cars for cash and credit cards. As they continue to hang out after school, Marc begins to view Rebecca as a sisterly figure. One day, she asks if he knows anyone who is out of town and he suggests a wealthy acquaintance currently in Jamaica. Persuaded by Rebecca’s plan, they break into the empty home and steal items resembling those owned by her idol Lindsay Lohan – including cash and a handbag. Additionally, they escape in the stolen Porsche after using the keys found inside the house.
After their recent windfall, they embark on a lavish shopping spree, splurging on luxury items that had previously caught their eye in magazines. Marc accompanies Rebecca to a nightclub, where they meet up with her friends Nicki Moore and her adoptive sister, Sam, as well as Chloe Tainer. Celebrities Kirsten Dunst and Paris Hilton catch the group’s attention. Curious about Hilton, Marc and Rebecca research her online and discover she is currently out of town. Eager for a closer look at Hilton’s lifestyle, they track down her address and sneak into her home using a key found under the doormat. Inside, they go through Hilton’s possessions and help themselves to some of her jewelry, including a bracelet that Rebecca proudly shows off at a party with Nicki, Sam, and Chloe in attendance. At Nicki’s urging, Rebecca and Marc take them all back to Hilton’s mansion to further explore its opulence.
