The Boat (2011–2013), a Spanish mystery TV series developed by Álex Pina and Iván Escobar, and produced by Globomedia for Antena 3, aired from January 17, 2011 to February 21, 2013. This gripping show combines drama, mystery, and action in a popular formula of the late 2000s. Following a global catastrophe caused by a tragic accident at the particle accelerator in Geneva, the crew and students of the Estrella Polar school-ship find themselves stranded and alone in a world where most of the land is underwater. The ship becomes their new home, but they soon realize they are not the only survivors as they must confront ‘the others’.

Season 1. The initial season sees North Star embarking on their greatest journey yet, as a strange overnight storm triggered by a particle accelerator throws them off course. The crew soon learns that their familiar world has vanished, with water covering 90% of the planet’s surface and their ship being the only means of survival. With Captain Ricardo Montero and First Officer Julian de la Cuadra at the helm, tough choices must be made as they face challenges such as massive sea creatures, avian attacks, onboard rebellions, and toxic fog. As students come to terms with the lack of habitable land, Ramiro makes a discovery that changes everything: there is still 10% of solid ground remaining. This revelation prompts the crew to set out on a quest for this elusive area.

Season 2. After the successful first season with an average of 100 million viewers, the show was renewed for a second season comprising 17 episodes. However, the last 3 episodes were moved to the third season, resulting in only 14 episodes for season 2. This installment aired from September 8, 2011 to January 5, 2012 and continued with Captain Montero’s decision to aid the astronauts’ landing as a massive hurricane threatened their ship and everyone aboard. Fortunately, they survive and retrieve the space capsule but are surprised to find it empty. Later on, they come across four survivors – Victor, Tom, Dulce, and Leonor – on a life raft from the Queen America cruise ship. However, it is soon revealed that these individuals are actually there to steal the airplane black box that Ulysses and de la Cuadra had found at sea. While navigating through treacherous waters and surviving a dangerous waterfall plunge, Palomares – who had been injured while trying to save the last remaining bible on earth – is ultimately saved by a massive electrical storm. In another episode, Piti & Bubble stumble upon a duck on board (nicknamed Manolito) suggesting that land may be nearby. Later

Season 3. In the third season, Bubble’s search for land continues. He is joined by Manolito, who has returned to the North Star. After examining the ship’s trajectory, they discover that it always goes to the same place. During their stay there, Gamboa makes an unexpected discovery – the city is actually beneath them. Meanwhile, Ainhoa shares with her father that Ulysses has been missing for a couple of days and that they have found another survivor, Cho Sung from a Russian ship. The North Star picks up a blip on their radar and upon investigation, they find out it’s a hotel that miraculously remained above water after the cataclysm. Four months go by and they finally stumble upon Ulysses in the building. They also meet Max, the leader of a group of survivors living in the hotel in Singapore. Max provides them with coordinates for land and asks for Ainhoa to stay in exchange. Despite initially working for the Alexandria Project, Ulysses changes his opinion of Max after learning about his past relationship with Dulce before boarding the ship. In other news aboard the North Star, Richard and Julia decide to tie the knot while Vilma befriends Cho Sung.
