The American romantic thriller drama film, The Bodyguard (1992), is directed by Mick Jackson and written by Lawrence Kasdan. It follows the story of Rachel Marron, an Academy Award-nominated actress and music superstar who is being targeted by a stalker. In the wake of a bomb explosion in her dressing room, Bill Devaney, her manager, enlists the help of Frank Farmer, a professional bodyguard with prior experience working for the Secret Service during Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan’s presidential terms. Despite initial hesitations, Frank takes on the job to protect Rachel. However, he finds her to be a spoiled diva who is unaware of the danger she is in. Rachel, on the other hand, criticizes Frank for his excessive security measures, claiming that they are intrusive. As their working relationship progresses, Rachel begins to see Frank in a different light when he saves her from danger during a riot at one of her concerts.

Unfortunately, not everyone is welcoming towards Frank’s presence; Tony, Rachel’s existing bodyguard, becomes hostile towards him and even gets into a physical altercation with him in Rachel’s kitchen. Despite Frank’s initial efforts to maintain a professional relationship, he ultimately gives into temptation and sleeps with Rachel. However, he quickly realizes that this could compromise his ability to keep her safe and decides to end the affair the following day. Feeling hurt by Frank’s actions, Rachel begins to rebel against his security measures. In an attempt to make him jealous, she starts flirting with Greg Portman, an ex-colleague of Frank’s from the Secret Service whom she meets at a party in Miami. It is only after receiving a threatening phone call from her stalker that Rachel fully acknowledges the severity of the situation and understands that she must put complete trust in Frank.
