The Collector (2009)

Written by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, The Collector (2009) is an American horror film directed by Dunstan. When Larry and Gena Wharton come home, they are shocked to find a large trunk upstairs and what lies inside. Suddenly, they are attacked by an unknown intruder. Meanwhile, Arkin O’Brien, a former convict, works for the Chase family as a handyman. As he finishes work for the day, he reunites with his wife who owes money to loan sharks and needs it paid off before midnight. In order to protect them, Arkin hatches a plan to steal a valuable ruby from the Chase home. However, his plans take a dangerous turn when Michael Chase is injured and dragged into the basement by a masked man. As Arkin tries to call for help, he discovers that the phone has been rigged with a spike that pierces his ear. To make matters worse, the windows are barricaded with razors, trapping Arkin inside.

Arkin heads to the basement, where Michael informs him that his wife Victoria has also been taken captive, Jill is currently out, and their youngest daughter Hannah is hiding somewhere in the house. After handing over the combination to a safe, Michael reveals a gun inside. Despite the lack of bullets, Arkin grabs it and pockets the valuable ruby. As he continues to explore, Arkin stumbles upon a trunk containing a bloody Larry. The man explains that their masked assailant is a ‘collector’ who only takes one person from each household and kills everyone else. Shaken by this revelation, Arkin makes a hasty escape but is met with the sight of Michael’s lifeless body. He then comes across Victoria, who has been brutally tortured by the Collector before being killed. At that moment, Jill returns home with her boyfriend Chad but tragedy strikes when he falls into a room filled with deadly bear traps.
