The film The Color of Money (1986) was directed by Martin Scorsese. It serves as a sequel to the 1961 classic, The Hustler, and is also based on Walter Tevis’ novel with the same title. In the movie, ‘Fast Eddie’ has left his pool-playing days behind and has become a successful liquor salesman in Chicago. However, he teams up with other pool players, including Julian, a hustler who is no match for the young and magnetic Vincent at nine-ball. Recognizing Vincent’s talent, Eddie sees potential in him and his inexperienced girlfriend Carmen when it comes to hustling. After Carmen pays Eddie a visit to inquire about Vincent, he invites them both to join him on a six-week hustle trip which will end with a big tournament in Atlantic City.
Using Vincent’s insecurities and a valuable Balabushka cue stick, Eddie successfully convinces him to accept his offer. This sudden change in plans upsets both Julian and Janelle. Together, Vincent and Carmen embark on a road trip with Eddie in his Cadillac, stopping at various pool halls along the way. While Eddie takes most of their winnings and absorbs losses, he also tries to teach Vincent the art of hustling. However, Vincent is resistant to playing below his ability. At one particular pool hall owned by Orvis, an old acquaintance of Eddie’s, tensions rise as Eddie grows tired of Vincent’s arrogance and eventually leaves him there. In the absence of Vincent, Eddie reminds Carmen that they are business partners with a shared interest in him.
