The Crazies (2010)
The horror flick The Crazies (2010), directed by Breck Eisner and penned by Scott Kosar and Ray Wright, takes place in Ogden Marsh, Iowa. During a local baseball game, resident Rory causes a disturbance by appearing on the field with a shotgun. Sheriff David Dutton tries to reason with him but is ultimately forced to take lethal action. Meanwhile, Judy (David’s wife), who serves as the town doctor, notices strange changes in another resident named Bill. His behavior includes repetitive speech and a vacant expression. Later that day, Bill traps his family inside their home and sets it ablaze. Concerned about the recent series of unsettling events, David and his deputy Russell investigate the area where they find a crashed military plane in the river. They come to suspect that the water supply may be connected to the odd behavior of their fellow townspeople and urge Mayor Hobbs to shut it off immediately.
Despite Hobbs’ refusal, David proceeds with his authorization. He responds to a disturbance at the morgue where an infected pathologist attacks him. Using an electric saw, David defends himself and is rescued by Russell. Following this incident, all communication services are suddenly disconnected and soldiers arrive to isolate residents at the nearby high school. Everyone is screened for signs of infection, including Judy who is found to have an elevated temperature due to her pregnancy. As a precaution, she is separated from David. Despite being in quarantine, David manages to escape and reunites with Russell. Together, they make their way back to the high school in hopes of freeing Judy. However, the military personnel fail to control the situation and eventually leave civilians behind as they evacuate. On waking up, Judy finds herself restrained on a gurney next to several others.
