The Dream Team (1989)
The Dream Team (1989), an American comedy thriller directed by Howard Zieff, follows the story of psychologist Dr. Jeff Weitzman in his work at a New Jersey sanitarium. His patients include Billy, Henry, Jack, and Albert. Among them, Billy stands out as the group’s de facto leader despite his dangerous tendencies and constant lying. Henry struggles with OCD and has convinced himself that he is one of the doctors at the hospital, often seen carrying a clipboard and wearing a lab coat and stethoscope. Jack used to work in advertising but now believes he is Jesus Christ. Lastly, Albert communicates solely through baseball jargon, particularly borrowing phrases from former player and commentator Phil Rizzuto.
Determined to provide a change of atmosphere for his patients, Dr. Weitzman successfully convinces the administration to take them to Yankee Stadium for a baseball game. However, misfortune strikes when he accidentally stumbles upon two corrupt cops in the act of murdering another officer. The doctor gets knocked unconscious in his attempt to flee and is admitted to the hospital. Stranded in New York City, the group must navigate their way through unfamiliar territory that proves to be even stranger than their own sanitarium. As Dr. Weitzman fights for his life after being attacked and left in a coma, it falls upon his patients to rescue him from the clutches of the murderous policemen.
