The Flash (2023), an American superhero film, is based on the DC Comics character Barry Allen / Flash. Helmed by director Andy Muschietti, it serves as the 13th installment in the DC Extended Universe. After assisting Batman and Wonder Woman in thwarting a robbery in Gotham City, Barry returns to his childhood residence where he lived with his parents Nora and Henry before Henry was wrongly imprisoned for Nora’s murder. On the day of her death, Nora had sent Henry to buy a forgotten can of food, leaving her alone in the kitchen where she was killed by an unknown attacker. Overcome with emotion, Barry unintentionally uses the Speed Force to create a ‘Chronobowl’ that takes him back in time to earlier that day. Despite Bruce’s cautionary words about the consequences of time travel, Barry places the can in Nora’s shopping cart at the store so that his father won’t have to leave their home.
After being transported to an alternate 2013 where his mother is alive, Barry encounters his parents and past self, realizing it is the day he first gained superpowers. In order to ensure his younger self receives these powers, they go to the Central City Police Department where a reenactment of the lightning strike takes place. However, both versions of Barry end up getting struck by lightning, resulting in the loss of his own abilities. While struggling to train his younger self on how to properly use his powers, they learn of General Zod’s plan to invade Earth. Attempting to form the Justice League to fight back, they are faced with setbacks as Diana cannot be found, Victor Stone has yet to gain his abilities, and Arthur Curry does not exist in this timeline.
