The Game Plan (2007)
The American sports family comedy film, The Game Plan (2007), directed by Andy Fickman, follows the story of Joe Kingman, quarterback for the Boston Rebels. During the final game of the regular season against the New York Dukes, Joe chooses to score a touchdown instead of passing to open receiver Travis Sanders. This decision leads to an unexpected visit from eight-year-old Peyton Kelly the next morning. Claiming to be his biological daughter sent by his ex-wife Sara, Peyton throws a wrench in Joe’s carefully curated public image. His agent, Stella Peck, tries to distract him with the upcoming playoffs. However, during the opening of his new restaurant and nightclub, Joe unintentionally leaves Peyton behind, resulting in a tabloid cover story.
Stella believes Joe could benefit from a new fatherly role. At a subsequent press conference, the journalists put Joe through the wringer until Peyton steps in to defend him, praising his efforts as a new parent and declaring him the best father in the world. Peyton then asks for a favor in return and persuades Joe to take her to a ballet academy run by Monique Vasquez. To prove that ballet requires just as much athletic prowess as football, Monique invites Joe to join their performance. After Peyton confronts Joe about his prideful and self-centered behavior, they begin their relationship. While hanging out at the mall with Peyton and her friends, Joe develops feelings for Monique. Following victories over Denver, Indianapolis, and Baltimore, the Rebels advance to the championship game in Arizona where they face off against the Dukes once again.
