The Grinch (2018)
The Grinch (2018) is an animated Christmas comedy produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures. In the lively town of Whoville, the human-like inhabitants known as Whos are eagerly anticipating their festive celebrations. However, there is one exception – the grumpy and green-furred Grinch, whose heart is notoriously ‘two sizes too small’. He resides in his cave with his faithful dog, Max, and typically only ventures into Whoville for essential errands or to annoy the locals. One day, young Cindy Lou Who notices her mother Donna struggling to care for herself and her infant twin brothers Buster and Bean. Initially, she plans to write a letter to Santa Claus for assistance. However, after a sarcastic encounter with the Grinch who suggests speaking to Santa directly about urgent matters, Cindy Lou decides to brave a trip to the North Pole herself. When her mother explains that it would take a month round-trip, Cindy Lou enlists her friends to help trap Santa instead.
As Christmas draws near, the Grinch’s attempt to sabotage the tree-lighting ceremony backfires, triggering memories of his lonely and neglected upbringing in an orphanage. Overwhelmed by these painful recollections, he resolves to take Christmas away from Whoville as a means of coping. With the help of his faithful dog Max, he obtains a plump reindeer named Fred and borrows a sleigh from his neighbor Bricklebaum. However, during a trial run, they discover that Fred has a loving family, leading the Grinch to make the difficult decision to release him back home. On Christmas Eve, disguised as Santa Claus and armed with clever gadgets, the Grinch and Max (pulling the sleigh in place of Fred) embark on their mission to steal all of Whoville’s decorations and gifts.
