The Hunt (2020)
The Hunt (2020), an American satirical action horror film directed by Craig Zobel and written by Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof, follows a group of individuals on an upcoming hunt of ‘deplorables’ at a manor. A group of strangers, a dozen in total, awake in a wooded area surrounding a field. Their mouths are gagged and they have no idea where they are or what is happening. Eventually, they come across a master key which unlocks their gags, as well as a crate containing a live pig and weapons. Realizing the potential need for protection, they arm themselves and soon become under attack from a distance, resulting in some fatalities. As the events unfold, many believe they are participating in Manorgate – an infamous internet story about elitists who hunt humans for sport.
The weapons provided to them seem to hint at giving them a fighting chance against their attackers. A few members of the group manage to break free from what they perceive as the designated game zone. However, they must now navigate through unfamiliar individuals and scenarios and determine who is trustworthy and who is not. Interestingly, it could be one member among the twelve who stands apart from the rest, giving her a greater chance at survival. Rather than trying to fit everything into the predetermined Manorgate narrative, she is able to assess each situation as it unfolds. In doing so, she may uncover the truth behind their selection as participants in this mysterious exercise.
